As many of you know, the Atlanta temple is being rededicated next month. In celebration, President Monson has asked that the youth put together a cultural celebration. When I heard there would be dancing involved, I got so excited. Even though I only have a teensy tiny bit of training, I love dancing. I love watching it, I love doing it. It made me so happy that dancing would be a part of the temple rededication because it's such a beautiful and inspiring way to express one's self.
A few weeks ago, I was called to be our branch's Dance Coordinator. I was really worried about it at first. My health isn't the greatest and John was set to be out of town for business for almost the entire month of March. I prayed about it and felt I should accept the assignment anyway. So far, it's been an amazing experience. There is a very special spirit about this undertaking. The youth have impressed me . . . especially the boys! The YM have to learn a "Fife and Drum" routine. They will be dressed as Revolutionary War soldiers and do a marching jig. It is very difficult choreography but they are picking up like nobody's business! I'm totally blown away by them. The girls are doing a Salsa routine (which is completely adorable) and they are learning fast too. I really love the youth in our branch. They are amazing. I'm always intimidated to work with teenagers since I've only had Primary callings. But I love those kids . . . they are so much nicer and fun than I was as a teen! I love being around them.
Oh and I final awesome note: Bro. Nowland, the Dance Coordinator for our Stake is not only an award-winning ballroom dancer but he was a dancer in the movie "Footloose"! THE "Footloose"! How awesome is that?! I had no idea we had serious dancers like that in our Stake . . . I love it! I'm hoping soon to find a clip he is in so I can share. : ) The next time I see him I'm also going to see if he can teach me some moves!
